A big milestone

A few weeks ago, something huge happened in Ari's life and I can't quite believe I haven't blogged about it yet.
Rob's old friend Penny was married in Newstead (near Castlemaine) and Rob and I had our very first night away together since Ari was born - that's nearly two years (I can hear childless people gasping).
It was also my first night ever away from Ari.
He spent the night at his Nanny and Poppa's house in Geelong and apparently didn't call for us once. It was a huge relief. And we had a great weekend.

Moments of madness

Today I had what I call a "never again" moment with Ari - when things just get so incredibly hard you think "never am I having another child!".
Ari was in his high chair and he had sent an entire cup of milk flying across the kitchen floor. Not only had it created a beautiful white arc on the floor, but he'd managed to get milk on every bit of the kitchen.
Trying desperately to mop up the mess and warm Ari's soup, the little blighter decided he didn't want soup at all. He sat in his high chair and cried. At one point I actually thought "if we have another child, Rob can stay home". It's hard to be happy about being a stay at home mum when you genuinely feel like crying over...spilt milk.
Of course, these moments pass and it's usually all fine in a matter of minutes. Ari did eventually eat his soup, the mess is gone and all is well. But these moments of madness do illustrate what a genuinely crappy job being a parent is sometimes.

A time capsule

Ari is...21 months old. Here's a snapshot of today:

Headline news: Saddam Hussein sentenced to hang. Melbourne Cup Eve. State election campaign.
Number one single: I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker by Sandi Thom
Petrol costs: $1.10 a litre
Last movie I saw: Who Killed The Electric Car?
Book I'm reading: Wuthering Heights
Rob is reading: The Long Tail
We're listening to: U2, as we are going to see them in concert soon.

Watching Bathurst - love that stripey jumper

Talky Boy

Ari has picked up a lot of new words in the past week or so. He can now say "bee", "bird", "potato" (well, sort of!), "Ryan" (much to his Aunty Lauren's disgust, because he can't say her name yet), "yes", "poo" and "uh-oh!".
The whole talking caper has come slowly, but he's getting there.
